Winner/Workspace/New Caption Contest

And the winner is….

Donald Mills with, “Two, two, two, I have two dollars from the man in the third row. Do I hear three? Three dollars? Anyone?” He won this week by a landslide of popular opinion.

My workspace…

I completely stole this idea from FJ since I was new to the game when he was doing his workspace posts, and didn’t get to participate. I used to sit and write on my terrace until my neighbor came home with two pigs. Now, we have a fly problem. So now I jump in the car and four minutes later, I’m here. I don’t mean to show off buts it’s what I do when I’m not busy stealing ideas.

New Caption contest…

Damiena was excited to practice her new powers of mind control, easily making the adults turn on each other.

  1. You sir……beyond a shadow of a doubt have the best workspace…

    when it’s not raining.

    Comment by Micky-T | November 23, 2009 | Reply

    • Thank god that it only rains 20 or so days of the entire year here. It’s pure sun 320 days a year on average!

      Thanks Micky!!

      • Oh…..so you really ARE bragging!!!!
Just for that, I hope it rains tomorrow, just as you get comfortable in that cheap run of the mill plastic chair!

        Comment by Micky-T | November 23, 2009 | Reply

        • I’m always really bragging. There are a lot of things not to brag about though. That cheap chair cost 40 euro which puts it at about 53 dollars. We looked around for about 2 months for lawn chairs. Everything here is ridiculously expensive. A ‘good’ one is over 80 a chair. It’s crazy man!

          Thanks Micky!!

Comment by Scott Oglesby | November 24, 2009 | Reply

          • Sorry, I didn’t mean to pick on your chair. I made that sleazy comment on it because it looks like a real comfortable chair.
Cheap to live, but expensive to have *stuff*, is that the deal in Southern Spain?

            Comment by Micky-T | November 24, 2009 | Reply

            • You got it. It’s cheaper to rent, or buy property but goods and services (including food) are pretty expensive. Beer and wine are cheaper than dirt though!

              Thanks Micky!!

    • Maybe not the coolest but probably the cleanest, air wise.

      Thanks FJ!!

  5. Yay Don!

    Boo Scott!

I’m sorry, you know that normally I am 100% pro-you, but I’m so jealous right now I can taste it…

I’ll be back with a caption once the pain has healed.

Give me an hour, two tops.

    • Yay Don!

Like I’ve always said; you’re my boo too B!

There is plenty for you to not be jealous of as well. Did I ever mention that this is a 5 or 6 hundred year old house, and the only bathroom is on the terrace? With the flies. That means my only shower is outside as well. And it gets cold, really cold in the winter when it’s cloudy. That should make you feel less jealous.

      Thanks B!!

  6. incredible view!!
it sucks about the pigs and the flies but how often can one say they had to leave home because of pigs and flies, it has a certain whimsy to it
too bad you can’t train spiders to patrol your terrace

    as for the photo
“Daddy says I have to stop repeating what Mommy says when Grandma is here”

    Comment by dianne | November 24, 2009 | Reply

    • I love the views around here. With a short walk or a really short drive you can find some pretty amazing scenery.

With the sheer amount of flies, it would take an army of spiders to make a dent. And I’m no fan of the spiders either. Burhhhh. agh. Funny caption!

      Thanks Dianne!!

  8. does your workspace have wifi?

    Comment by nursemyra | November 24, 2009 | Reply

    • No, no wifi unfortunately. Even when I’m at home though, I prefer to write in a notebook first. I seem to think better with a pen in my hand.

      Thanks Nursemyra!!

  9. Damn nice workspace! Bloody hell, ol’ chap, you could shoot a decent goat for dinner with a scoped carbine up there! Country take-out! I’ve got some great caption ideas, but . . . damn . . . there it goes again. Can’t seem to maintain focus this morning. The hills here are very similiar in shape to the ones in your view, but heavily forested — a huge bobcat went in front of my car (again) yesterday. The trees block any view off our porch, though. And I don’t have excess to a killer terrace. Plus . . . the lazy factor. No wonder you’re inspired for such killer writing . . . keep up the great posts! I’ll think of a caption later!

Comment by Dan McGinley | November 24, 2009 | Reply

    • There are only a few problems with that. There are no animals up here at all. I walk almost everyday for am hour or two and have never, ever come across an animal big or small. Groups of hunters go out every Sunday, and for two years I have never seen any one of them get something. Also, I’ve never hunted, so I don’t think I would be good at it. Thanks for all the compliments, you make my day.

      Thanks Dan!!

Comment by Scott Oglesby | November 25, 2009 | Reply

      • I’m with you, bro. I have to live-trap the mice who come in every year when the weather gets cold, then release them miles away, with my daughter naming them and waving good-bye!

Comment by Dan McGinley | November 25, 2009 | Reply

        • Ah that’s nice of you. I have the same nice streak, but only with animals. I keep saving kittens from being tied up in trash bins over here. They aren’t too big on animal rights. That’s how I got my cat. Had to syringe feed him for a week to nurse him back to health. He’s a fucking tiger now though!

          Thanks Dan!!

  10. That’s a wonderful workspace, Scott. Far better than my view of a bus stop, crosswalk and my neighbour’s fat Persian.

Comment by Donald Mills | November 24, 2009 | Reply

    • Your view certainly has its advantages as well. If you ever need to catch a bus, call for help, or any other convenience of living in the 21st century. This is still 1809 over here. Mostly.

      Thanks Don and congrats!!

  11. I think the picture of your workplace would have made for a better caption contest…not that I’m creative enough to come up with a winner, mind you.

    Comment by David | November 24, 2009 | Reply

    • I’m sure that I already make up far too many caption contests the world over. There are no shortages of photos of me in compromising positions situations.

      Thanks David!!

  12. Shoot, coulda sworn I replied the other day! Maybe it was just envy that made me forget. NICE workspace!

    As for the caption:
Photographer Daddy: “All my beautiful girls… Dammit mother I married her accept it! Oh honey, don’t give her anymore reasons… “

    • Thanks, I’m enjoying it as well. I only wish that it was my own terrace. I love your reality based caption!

  14. I’m going to ignore your incredible workspace and head right to the caption:

“Unfortunately they soon discovered that the youngest had been the only one granted the enviable power to ‘wish people into the cornfield.'”

  15. Edna . . ? The Dutch Boy’s finger is probing an improper place.”

I’m so damn sorry, Scott. These are truly thoughts from the dark side . . .

Caption submitted; I hope they have decent Thanksgiving turkeys over there!

Comment by Dan McGinley | November 25, 2009 | Reply

    • Haha, he does look very Dutch-y doesn’t he. No, I can’t buy a turkey over here at all. But I’ll make up for it in London and Paris.

      Thanks Dan!!

  16. The funny thing is, and I cannot for the life of me figure it out, how your workspace sandwiched between six strange people still seems so calm, becoming and enviable!
    Interesting neighbors as always Scott;)

Loved the caption, and I adore your contests…maybe you should have a blog dedicated just to captions..boy will that something. Uh, a little more work managing 2 workspaces though:)

Happy thanksgiving Scott! Wild turkeys or other stuffy animals?

Comment by The Juicer | November 25, 2009 | Reply

    • I’m thinking that if I want to keep the ‘Gods’ going I should start a new blog just for that and leave this one for captions and my other silly shit?

    • At an overlook above Cadiar. It’s about 45 minutes from the coast of Southern Spain in the Granada region. Also known as the Alpujarras and Andalusia. I get mail all 3 ways.

      Thanks For stopping by Azahar!!
