I dig the first picture Scott, and Heart of Darkness is one of my favorite novels. Cheers to ya!!
Comment by Matt-Man | February 16, 2010 |
I love that novel as well. Actually all of them.
Thanks Matt-Man!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 16, 2010 |
Lovely. I also like the first photo the best. The week of Halloween I wrote a ghost story — all true that occurred to me — every day. Go back and read my Oct posts and you’ll see I wholeheartedly agree with you on this one……
Comment by Amy Gray Light | February 18, 2010 |
I’ll read it today. I’m planning on actually writing on myself, but it may have to be after we move back to the states. I wouldn’t want to upset anything…er…
Thanks Amy!!

Cool pictures. I agree with Matt, the first one is my favorite. It’s eerie. It’s creepy to think that they’re probably around us at all times.
Comment by 3 Men and a Lady | February 16, 2010 |
I totally agree. I think I’m more sensitive to that sort of feeling for some reason. Being a Pisces maybe? Creepy indeed…
Thanks 3 Men and a Lady!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 16, 2010 |
Me, too. My husband has no idea what I mean when I tell him a place is “not right”. Not everyone can feel it. Are you ever on twitter, btw?
Comment by 3 Men and a Lady | February 16, 2010 |
Oh God, I know exactly what you mean, and I feel it so much stronger here. The houses are all between 5 and 6 hundred years old with dozens, if not hundreds of births and deaths in each.
I almost forget I have a twitter account sometimes. I’ve only ever used it to repost blogs. I’m always on Facebook though since I can ‘see’ and ‘talk’ to people back in Pgh and Florida. You gotsta friend me if you’re on there! I have a few amazing photos of my travels…
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 16, 2010 |
Nope, no FB here. But several of us that blog talk on Twitter, look us up sometime.
Comment by 3 Men and a Lady | February 18, 2010 |
Ok I will, thanks!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 18, 2010 |
Are the ghosts of the village getting to you Scott. Do they want you ……oouuuut…oouuuuut.
Comment by Micky-T | February 16, 2010 |
No, unfortunately I think they want me to stay. But I won’t! (nervous laughter)
Thanks Micky!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 16, 2010 |
they are all scary to me…the least little thing scares me
Comment by Corve DaCosta | February 16, 2010 |
Me too Corve, me too!
Thanks Corve!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 16, 2010 |
Yeah, that first one is REALLY creepy. And I mean that as a compliment. 😉
The only one of the three of those that I’ve read is Heart of Darkness. Excellent story.
Comment by Jay | February 16, 2010 |
Check out the other three…(ghost story too) they’re all good.
Thanks Jay!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 16, 2010 |
Ooooh. Creeeepy!
Do you watch Celebrity ghost stories on Bio? If not you should. Good stuff.
Comment by Candice | February 16, 2010 |
I haven’t seen it but if I can download it I definitly will. Have you seen Paranormal Activity yet? That scared the heck out of me!
Thanks Candice!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 16, 2010 |
Yeah I did see it. I thought it was slow at first, but the ending freaked me out for a while.
Comment by Candice | February 17, 2010 |
Yea, I was alright until the girl got dragged out of bed….then I was freaked out. I had to then immediately google it to make sure it wasn’t real…. scary shit!

“There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.”
I don’t find them creepy, rather I find them comforting. The world has its bits of magic and wonder and miracles.
Comment by Another Desert Rat | February 16, 2010 |
Great quote, Desert Rat! For some reason I couldn’t get “Last night I dreamt of Manderly again” out of my head for the title. But it was more Stephen King’s use of it than from Rebecca. I find great comfort in the magic and wonder of life as well…especially out here. But that sensitivity also makes me feel negative influences as well….
Thanks Desert Rat!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 16, 2010 |
Scott, I feel the negative ones, too. Here in the Desert Southwest there are whiffs of cannibalism and other violence by the ancients – I’ve felt chills in some of the ruins.
Comment by Another Desert Rat | February 16, 2010 |
I’ve always felt drawn to the desert as well. From the first time I saw The Doors movie and they were tripping on Peyote. haha. I’ll have to visit you soon!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 17, 2010 |
Oh, yeah, I remember that scene! Ha! My husband worked on the Navajo Res teaching for a bit and some of the female students would take peyote during their “monthlies.” Nice when it’s part of your religion and completely legal, no?
You and your lovely wife are always welcome! I might even let you use the “ancient” stove – it’ll cost you a bottle of Spain’s finest!
Comment by Another Desert Rat | February 17, 2010 |
Yea, I’m definitely down with that religion! Actually, even without the drugs. I love the way that Native Americans practiced spirituality; it was/is a beautiful thing!
As far as your offer, when we do come back…..SOLD!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 17, 2010 |
Neat pics but i kind of dont get them…are the figures in the first pic ghosts or is the pic a metaphor….creepy pics though…zman sends
Comment by steve | February 16, 2010 |
It’s up to you Steve. I can’t even remember taking that first pic, but I was looking through some of my shots, saw that and wanted to get it up. They might be ghosts…..it’s up to you.
Thanks Steve!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 17, 2010 |
Great shots, Scott.
I’ve been possessed by the White Devil myself more than once, which immediately does two things:
1. Removes my almost innate sense of rhythm.
2. Compels me to dance in public. On the dancefloor.
I call him Vodka, Drunken Master of Caucasian Mobility.
Comment by Capitalist Lion Tamer | February 16, 2010 |
Ah that white devil is most powerful. I’m not even kidding when I say that the White Devil you speak of carries with him his own legion of demons which cause people (me) to do and say the most embarrassing things. It may be the collective pain body of the land where good vodka is made coming back to haunt us all. Even if it is only in the form of dance. At least it’s not Riverdance! Do you have anything on Youtube?
Thanks CLT!!

I love that last image Scott
Comment by nursemyra | February 16, 2010 |
Me too! Tell me that wouldn’t make a great book cover?
Thanks Nursemyra!!

I like the middle one best. Not sure why, but it just appeals to me. Maybe it’s the chairs.
Nice work Scott
Comment by Donald Mills | February 17, 2010 |
The middle one does hold the hand of mystery as well. It’s my friends bar, and I swear to God that it was a rainy, cloudy day. I was just getting a shot of the gentle light filtering through the windows. I had no idea, until I put them on the computer that it came out like that.
Thanks Don!!

Roll on vibrant summer colours!
Comment by Dave Hambidge | February 17, 2010 |
This is crazy Dave; it’s the worst winter, weather wise that they’ve had in decades. I need that sun NOW.
Thanks Dave!!

Of course I love these…its the zombie lighting. We want more.
Comment by Fundamental Jelly | February 17, 2010 |
You know that you always inspire me FJ. Believe it or not, I got all three of those ‘screw-ups’ in the same 40 shot batch.
Thanks FJ!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 18, 2010 |
these are great!
I believe in spirits all around us
so cool of them to pose
they’re really misunderstood
Comment by dianne | February 18, 2010 |
I do too Dianne, and they’re not all sweet. Most, but not all. I offered them a cold cervasa if they let me get a photo.
Thanks Dianne!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 19, 2010 |
Whoa. The Heart of Darkness is stunning. Fantastic pictures, Scott. You’ve got a great eye with the camera. I wonder if one of the ghosts is the father of that guy in “Princess Bride” (Inago Montoya), who was trying to avenge his untimely death.
Comment by Dan McGinley | February 21, 2010 |
Thanks for all the compliments Dan. I think they’d all make great book covers personally…now I just have to write the books.
As you probably could guess, I love The Princess Bride. And I think that one is indeed the father.
Thanks Dan!!

And here I thought the White Devil was my boss! Damn, all those years of hatin’ wasted!
Comment by Ramblin' Rooster | February 22, 2010 |
Good hate is never wasted. It always goes where it is needed…karma sees to that. Besides who’s to say that your boss isn’t a demon?
Thanks Rooster!!
Comment by Scott Oglesby | February 22, 2010 |
I only want to hate the best. A demon is a far cry from the infamous “White Devil”.
Comment by Ramblin' Rooster | March 1, 2010 |
Ok, I’ve got my evil enttities all messed up again…
Thanks Rooster!!
